My employer at the time was replacing the CPU's of file servers that ran Netware. They didn't care that there was no way the bug would affect a file server. :\

When I saw this thread title I thought I was time-traveling back to the 90s or something!

I would bet you a cup of coffee, that, yes, they would swap it out.

The 186/386/486 didn't reach EOL until 07 so I wouldn't be surprised if they had some Pentiums lying around.

Maximilian, your post sure brought back memories! My wife and I worked together in business from 81 to late 95. We had 3 computers networked together with the newest being a Gateway P60 which had the "bug". Intel sent me a replacement P60 and all went well until yours truly rebooted and got a BSOD. Being new to the process, I thought I had the reboot disk in the 3.5 drive but instead had the 1st disk of 6-8 of windows3.1. Being too fast, I hit yes too many time and instead of rebooting I was reformatting the HD:eek::eek::eek::eek:
Well, after an allnighter I proudly told my wife " it was fixed"
All because of that flaw HaHaHa
