What exactly is an 'Execution Unit?' Is it just a type of 'Shader Unit?' Or is it a TMU and ROP as well?

Clock for Clock comparison which is faster, Execution Core or a Cuda Core? For arguments sake they both have the same Cache, Mem Size, GDDR5, etc.

I would compare the Execution Units to complete 5 VLIW units in AMD cards, except Intel ramps up the clock speed much higher when in "turbo mode", and that's how they can compete with the likes of the 5450 of which has 16 5-VLIW shaders (80 Stream Processors total) even though 12 EUs is the highest so far in any Sandy Bridge variant. Though the turbo mode I hear is dependent on the entire chip's TDP, and the IGP clock speed will come down to maintain it.
