Hopefully Rambus is cheap enough by then.

We might be using MRAM or some other form of RAM by the 10 GHz era. Hopefully. :)

Interesting stuff - somehow this didn't get posted on the Intel-internal intranet site. Thanks, Joohang.

I'd like to see some prices. :) If anyone in this forum needs 10+Ghz......may I ask what you do? You'd be able to open like 10,000,000,000 solitaire games! W O W! I want one. ;) Yeah, multitasking to the max! Muhahahah! Now I need to get more mice to play all those games at once.....

Mr. Bond,

Your statement reminds me of one of those arrogant ZDNet editors 5 years ago, saying: "By year 2000, we will have 800 MHz computers. Who needs so much power any ways?" <-- or to similar extent

To me, faster CPUs are always better, and I'm not even a gamer.

You never know what computing will be like in a few years from now. I wouldn't make such a bold statement and get laughed at later. :)

Joohang, I know exactly what you mean. I was only being sarcastic. Yeah, my mom spent $3,000 on our AMD 486DX2/120Mhz CPU in 1995. Now look, you can get that exact machine on someone's boulevard!!! LOL. :)

Also, note the sarcastic Solitaire statement I wrote. I didn't mean to sound ignorant and I appologize. I know where one could pick out that kind of information in the statement I wrote above.

EDIT: Do you guys think that technology will ever reach a limit? Where we have 100Thz machines? What will we be doing by then? The OS will be on like 20 DVDs, heck, we'll prolly have a larger storage that fits into a space smaller than our wristwatch!!! Where do you guys think we're headed? Just curious of other's opinions and comments.

Mr. Bond,

I suck at catching sarcasm, especially from online posts. :)

So, 007. Aren't 10 GHz machines just another little toy for you? How do you like your new BMW?

As far as CPU's are concerned, we are headed to a new generation. We can't use the good ol' transistors any more, as these processes get smaller and smaller and eventually reach the atomic limitations. I see some future with quantum computing, and there are quite a few alternatives being researched at the moment.

I really have no idea what the world would be like in 10 years. I just hope that there isn't a major world-scale war any time soon.

Yes, the BMW is great. :) LOL. Wouldn't that just suck @$$ if Mac OS was on 100% of the computers by 2010!!! I think I would look for an alternative passtime, instead of using my computer. ;) Before you know it, we'll have to turn the frame rate display in Quake 3 off....because the numbers will take up the entire screen!!! I'd like to patent a technology that would use optical cables for HDDs and other peripherals. That way, the cables would be VERY small, flexible, and wouldn't block air-flow in a case! What do you guys think? Also, transfer rates would go through the roof! Plus, the bandwidth of fiber is amazing, you would be able to have a lot of devices on one chain! It may be an expensive technology, but I think it would match nicely against my AMD 10Ghz CPU. :) Drool......better go to bed now.

About the advancement of technology and what-not.... I listened to a speaker, Ray Kurzweil, the other day talk a bit about nano-technology. He is proposing the possibility of having nano-computers flow through our bloodstream, move to our brain, and be able to interact with our neural pathways, putting us into VR at any time.

Thoughts? Personally I really enjoyed hearing about the possibility of such a thing, but he made the prediction that we would be there in 30 years or less. At the rate consumer technology is increasing, it's hard to tell WHERE we'll be in 30 years.

Just trying to make more conversation about how some people don't see the need for such advanced technology at the moment...

wow thats totally insane.

thats about 100 times worse than that guy with the microchip in his arm who gets computers to open doors for him and stuff.

I hope you guys realize that that is truly scary.

For a good science fiction book on nanotechnology, I recommend "The Diamond Age" by Neil Stephenson.

Wow....uhh....microcomputers flowing through my blood vein! Hmm....Ouch! I'm bleeding! Nooooooooo, VR mode down! LOL. I gotta get my microcomputers back! ;) That would suck donkey balls, you guys. Seriously, I would never do such a thing!

pm, I'll try to look into that book. This is a pretty interesting topic, and very debatable. Just thought it was a very interesting talk that Kurzweil gave. Check out his website for more info.

Ummm...you guys remember Terminator? CPU becomes too advanced and take over the whole world. ^_^; j/k..but could become a reality.

p.s..oh yeah! I just became a senior member!! :D
