Intel's BTX "Stovepipe" cooler

LOL! WAFPOC

when us Northwood guys (eventually) upgrade (?), Intel is going to be very disappointed that we all went to AMDs 😉

That's sweet! Their next design will actually be a car radiator and a 24" floor fan "integrated" into the side of the case!

Why not just move to a recommendation of H2O if that's the best design for air?

At first glance, I thought being so large, it's a cool passive design for silence..way to go INTEL...

Then I saw the fat 38mmx90mm FAN and LMAOROFLWTFB's this is getting crazy..what is that a 80cfm 65dBa Delta??

In all fairness that's a chineese guy holding that up...small hands may make objects appear bigger than they are.🙂

That thing is scary. Why doesn't Intel just get it over with and start packaging phase change systems with their retail processors.

ahhaahha wtf is that. stupid intel people. sigh. theyre gonna be losing out big time a few years down the road. ahah GO AMD! WOO!

OMGWTF man!! Are those bafoons at intel really sold on the idea of a freakin industrial cooling tower just to keep the prescott working??. man, they're goin down. *admires currend H2O amd64*

It won't bother anyone. The average joe doesn't know jack about what's cooling his CPU anyway, and the enthusiasts are used to seeing interesting cooling solutions. I doubt it will change anyone's mind over to AMD, especially since we are all going to see some interesting coolers from both camps when the dual core chips start appearing. Intel may just be getting a head start on those coolers.

Intel and AMD processors work fine, but I am getting tired of Intel.

AMD - Lets try to design a more efficient core design

Intel - Lets take an old POS and PUMP IT UP to the point where it needs a cooler the size of moby dick

that made a lot of sense....

Thanks. I always try to make fun of the fanboys by "fixing" their fanboy sayings. Yes, I know I didn't make that clear, but I used the quick reply and didn't have the smileys available.

Both companies make excellent CPU's, IMO. I have no trouble recommending AMD or Intel. Both companies have made CPU's that ran "too hot" at times in their history. It hasn't hurt either one as far as I can tell. AMD fans just bought better coolers to cool those hot AMD chips, and so do Intel fans these days. Neither side refused to buy the hot running chips as far as I can remember.

I hate FUD and wannabe salesmen for either camp.

Intel needs to dump the P4 and concentrate on their P-M's. Come on, just put an integrated memory controller in it and it will rocket.

The type of cooler isn't really going to be of any interest to anyone, there will always be after-market coolers. But how much does something like that cost to make compared to the current design? Or the older simple designs? It's got to make up a rather large percentage of the price of a retail box processor. Just the number of screws holding it together probably means more steps in the production line.

What's with the thermal pad on there? It's not even the same size as the heat spreader. If it doesn't "flow" out far enough, you'll end up with the edges of the heatspreader not making any contact with the heatsink at all (ignoring the issue of a circular copper patch on a square heat spreader).

I'd have expected the BTX stock cooler to be simple and smaller than ATX coolers. Outside exhausting is part of the design, it should be more efficient and therefore more able to deal with even a Prescott. All they needed to do was stick a shroud on it, except for the different mounting style.

I hope BTX gets changed the way ATX did, so we're not stuck mounting our coolers to the mainboard tray.

Why not switch to the old Alpha design? A big bold right down the middle of the CPU. 🙂
