Somebody, I need serious help!

I have the latest Intellimouse Explorer, and I previously had version 4.0 of the Intellimouse Explorer software.

After monkeying around a bit, I decided to reinstall the software...but accidently reinstalled version 3.2.

Since I couldn't find the 4.0 software, I decided to download it on the internet. I went for version 4.1

It installed just fine, but the software did not detect my mouse as a IntelliMouse Explorer...but rather some other dinky mouse.

Somethings transpired between then and now...and I can't remember all what I did.

But now I can't install or remove IntellPoint 4.0. Everytime I go in the "Add Remove Programs", it sends me that same "Windows Installer: 1: 2803 2: SetupError 2: 4: 5: 6:" error.

I try installing the version 4.1 from the internet. Same Error!

I try installing it from the 4.0 CD. Same Error!

Not only that, EVERYTIME I CLICK OK ON THE ERROR, IT RESTARTS MY COMPUTER!

RESTART, RESTART, RESTART, RESTART

I'm absolutely stuck!

Please help someone!

Thanx.

I had the same problem the past couple of days. My power supply went out and I replaced it with an old one from a computer I no longer used, that one then went out in two days and I replaced it with another old one that was only 145 watts. Since I use a USB keyboard and USB mouse, when I reattached them I used a diffrent port (I have 6) and it tried to install new software for them. The mouse would work for about 3 seconds and then the light on the mouse would go out. I replaced the powersupply a third time with a new one that I bought and my mouse stayed powered up. Now to tackle the missing mouse drivers for the extra buttons.

My solution was to go to add remove programs, and remove Intellipoint 3.1 (it let me do this). After that I tried to remove 4.x and the same error popped up. I tried to install the new software, same error, automatic reboot.

I then ran regedit and searched for the word mouse and deleted several keys (not sure which ones) but some were in the USB section, I ignored ones that seemed to do nothing (ie. click rate, sensitivity, actions in programs). I also searched for the word intellipoint and deleted some of those keys. I also noticed that in the install directory section the 5th or 6th location was a:\ so I also put a floppy in drive A (I don't think this really matters because after the install I removed and then reinstalled and did not need a disk in drive a). After running regedit, I did NOT reboot and ran the download, it ran the setup program and rebooted. On reboot, at first I had no mouse and had to log in using the keyboard (you may not have to). At startup, it built a new driver information base and installed the mouse and it worked.

I know it probably isn't a good idea to hack the registry so carelessly but I felt that all the things that had to do with the mouse would be properly reset if the install program could run. My computer is now running great.
