IntelliMouse Optical vs Logitech MX510

My Microsoft IntelliMouse Optical recently died after a good many years of use, so I am now looking to purchase a new mouse.

Does anyone out there have experience with both the IntelliMouse Optical (not explorer) AND the Logitech MX500 or 510 series of mice? If so, what are your opinions on both of the mice. Which one do you like better?

About 99% of computer time is spent gaming, and the button setup is very important to me. I have gotten used to the two buttons on the left and right sides of the IntelliMouse. I notice the Logitech has a similar setup, but the two buttons are both located together on the left side of the mouse.

You know, I could be wrong and, according to the rest of the OT population, I usually am, but, I could swear on my Mother's grave that Anandtech Forums has a category designated to peripherals.

/edit - or should it be, "...designated for peripherals."?

Don't apologize to me. I'm the least deserving member of any apology here.

the MX sensor in my mx500 way outclasses every microsoft mouse ive ever owned. Most noticable in games. had 3 intellimice and this mx500 and I couldnt be happier that I made the switch. difference between 300, 310 and 500 is just shape and buttons. I would definitley get either the 310 or 500 though... 310 is too small for me, 500 is too high.... microsoft has better ergo, but its all about the performance.

Enjoy and don't sweat the wrong forum. Your're the first guy I've ever seen apologize for screwing it up. Have a  on me :D

THe new Explorer 4.0 has a higher scan rate than any logitech. I would definately look at that one.

The thumb and pinky/ring finger button (on the left and right sides of IntelliMouse) are very important for me. From the looks of the Logitech mouse it appears that these buttons are placed to high, and are are too small to be easily accessible in games. I'm a big FPS player, and those buttons are very important for me.

Thats how I got the current IntelliMouse that just crapped out on me. My previous IntelliMouse stopped working as well, and this most recent one was a free replacement from Microsoft. They won't cover this replacement under their replacement plan.

Someone outta kill Bill Gates. Then somebody should say, "Under Microsoft's current replacement plans, we can't replace Bill Gates." And then somebody with head on their shoulders (a head that's more concerned about end-user satisfaction instead of how much money they can earn per annum) might take over and we all might be much more happy.

I suppose both of the IntelliMouse Optical's dying is a sign to invest in a different company for my mousing needs.

I'm going with Logitech, I bought MS in past and had bad luck with them, Logitech is a keyboard/mouse company where as MS is just trying to give it a shot.
