I find that my Intellimouse Optical isnt as smooth as my old razer boomslang. When moving around it jumps when moving rather then moving smoothly. Any ideas?

You could try a different surface or mouse mat,the ratpad and Everglide Giganta are great,it may be you`ve the old Microsoft Optical mouse that has the old sensor that takes 1500 scans a second, the new Microsoft versions have an improved sensor that take 6000 scans a sec, info here on that. .

Also don`t expect smoothness to be the same as the Boomslang since that has 2000 dpi,you tried changing the acceleration settings etc for your mouse?

Just checked the box for my mouse and it does scan at 6000. It just happens im using a ratpadz too. :) The thing I find strange is that at work we have this cheap aopen optical mouse that is alot lesser quality then my intellimouse optical and it is way more precise and smooth then my intellimouse :( What settings were you refering to? Ive tried looking through the standard windows mouse settings as well as as the ones in the software that came with the mouse. Overall I am quite puzzled with the performance of the mouse. Anymore ideas from anyone? Any suggestions are appreciated.

You don`t say if you`re using USB or PS2 connection but you could try the one you`re not using at the moment and see if that makes a difference. You`re using latest Microsoft intellimouse software?

Also check the optical sensor on the bottom of the mouse is not full of any crap like dust buildup etc, there should not be any but worth checking anyway.

Yes im using the latest intellimouse software with a USB connection. I will try PS2 and reply back here. I just remembered my friend has the exact mouse and he says his jumps like mine as well opposed to going smooth.

Hmmm out of ideas now,the ratpad is a great gaming mouse, but try this little test, get a white sheet of A4 paper and run your optical over it does it still jump around?

I mean plain paper like you use in printers, lay the paper flat on your desktop and use the optical mouse over it like a mouse pad,see how it performs.

Well you only have two choices now, change the mouse to one that`s right for you,or get a RMA on yours to see if it`s faulty but you say your friend has the same problem so it`s up to you now which way you go.

Well I will probly switch back to my boomslang which will be a pain because I am having to clean it way too often I find. I dont think RMA'ing it will do much good as I dont think the mouse itself is defective. My last resort which is re-selling will cost me to lose $25 atleast I think. So im pretty much up the creek on this one. Thanks Mem and others who tried to help, it is appreciated.

before you go about sending your mouse to MS, try this.

1) Re-Install the Latest Intellipoint Software off the Ms Website.
2) if you are not running Win2k then go through the mouse options till you find a check box that says "enable pointer precision"(i might be just in xp though)

this should sort the problem out for you as i have the same mouse,
although i`m not sure which version it is. how do you tell wo/ the box?

for some reason, i have a similar problem in Win2k, but the "Cure" that i suggested isn`t there, so if you find a software baced cure apart from the the one mentioned, then please e-mail me about it.

That's true, just one phone call; they ask for a serial number and send you a replacement for free. I can't remember the phone number though. I wonder if it's in the faq. If not, it should be.

heres a fix for it, i had the same problem, if you had the sensitivity up to max;

It turns out that if you have the mouse sensitivity up to max, then windows will skip pixels to make it seem that the pointer is moving faster than what it is. so you just move the slider 5 points to the left (assuming you have it to max) and enable acceleration to high in the mouse control panel. problem solved.

the number to call to get your mouse replaced for free if it comes to that is 1-800-360-7561. press 3, then1 to talk to someone to get your mouse replaced.

I hope you can figure out what the problem is, I have one of the old intellimouse (1500 scans) and it works just fun, even in all the onling gaming I do (RTCW, Q3, CS, DS, and WC3) peace

Yeah if you have the part number, they will send you a new mouse without question. Very good on Microsoft's part for a no hassles deal.
