Intellimouse optical - crazy scroll wheel

Just got a new MS Intellimouse Optical. I am running a Toshiba laptop with Win ME.

The mouse works fine, except for the scroll wheel - one notch will scroll right to the end of a document. It doesn't matter what the scroll sensitivity is set to: 1 line or 1 screen, it makes no difference.

The Intellipoint troubleshooter is no help - the problem remains.

The problem exists in both USB and PS/2 modes. I've tried both Intellipoint 3.1 and 3.2 - no difference.

Any ideas?

I love the scroll wheel =). Faster than my logitech ps/2

weird...do you have smooth scrolling turned on/off? Don't know...

Solved the problem. Plugged the mouse into USB, and disabled PS/2 mouse port in Windows device manager.

Re-enabling PS/2 in device manager makes the problem come back. Weird!
