Hi there...

I have a Microsoft IntelliMouse Optical which has support for both USB and PS/2 connections. I am wondering, besides ease of use, is there any advantage of using the USB connection over using the PS/2 port for this mouse?

Thanks! :D

Not really. It can depend on your BIOS. If your BIOS gives you legacy USB support, then a USB mouse can be used with some DOS boot utilities - otherwise - PS/2 only will be seen in DOS. Whatever turns your crank. The mouse will work the same.

Event packet data flight time, including interrupt handling, is faster from an USB port than from the ancient PS/2 keyboard controller unit. It's only a matter of milliseconds, but it's enough to give the mouse cursor movement a smoother feel.

Thanks! If the mobo likes it on the USB port with the bus overclocked, I'll put there. If not, it stays on the PS/2 then :D

Thanks again!
