Intellimouse Explorer problem

I've been having a problem with my Intellimouse Explorer ever since I got it. Sometimes when moving the mouse around, it'll jump in the wrong direction a little. For instance, say I move it up, the pointer will kinda squiggle around down or left or right a little bit before kicking in to the right direction. This happens actually quite often, and it's rather annoying. Anyone know what it might be?
 
this happens to me if there is something non-reflective is on the desk(like a mouse-mat)sometimes mine does it if there is even a bit of dust on the desk as the dust doesn't reflect the light, try blowing on the bottom of the mouse to dislodge any dust, try wiping of the desk and don't use a mouse-mat.
