The CD install of IntelliPoint 3.2 was OK, but the download of version 4.01 from MS is really weird. It's an EXE and it asks you where you want the files installed. OK, so the question is, is that where it will install or is that where it will just break out the installation files? You figure the latter, and it turns out to be right. There's a file called setup.exe in the top level directory, but the directory under that is called \Mouse, and there's a different setup.exe in there. Which do you run? Your guess is as good as mine. To make things worse, there's a subdirectory of that called \setup and in there is a file called oemsetup.exe. Oh, boy, another choice. There's a readme in the middle directory that says if you run setup nothing happens until you reboot. Absolutely nothing. If you don't uninstall version 3.2, not only does nothing happen, but when you reboot nothing still happens. OK, so you uninstall, reboot and then run one of the setup.exe's again. The install program comes up. Trouble is, it doesn't let you decide where you want the installation, unlike the CD install of version 3.2, which was an InstallShield installation and you could put it anywhere you wanted. To make things worse, when you uninstall version 3.2, a bunch of stuff persists, ostensibly because they don't want you to lose important info on mouse and computer ergonomics. So you wind up with two separate areas where the mouse driver is and was installed. Do you blow away the old stuff? I guess that's up to you. My impression is that the new stuff has all the old stuff and you can blow the old stuff away. But it takes some poking around before you can start to realize that. Pretty crazy stuff here from a company that's supposed to be good at picking up the stiches. In the registration process there was a text box for comments. I complained some... :D
