Intellimouse 2.0a slowdown issues, any help??

All of the sudden in the last few weeks, my Intellimouse Explorer seems to "forget" pointer speed settings, it will slow way down...and randomly lock up for a few seconds, then be fine again...anyone know what the cause of this is?? help is appreciated!!
