Johann Wolfgang von Goethe said, "The highest happiness of man is to have probed what is knowable and quietly to revere what is unknowable." It's an idea I completely agree with, and the overwhelming diversification of human knowledge can guarantee there will not be another Joseph Leidy. I can only assume that Joseph assumed some level of higher happiness than the intellectual contemporaries of today.
