I bought a new cell phone with service (one year contract with T-mobile) from them. As per their advertisement, they promised to send a $50 mail in rebate after ?181 days from the date of Activation?.

I placed my order with them in Sept/Oct 2003. Now that I contacted them after 8 months to check the status of my rebate, I was finally directed to a non-1800 number where I could ultimately speak to a customer service rep. To my surprise, the rude rep told me that my rebate was not valid since I terminated my contract, and instead I could have been charged the cancellation fee. The argument that I was provided was that since T-mobile changed my number, the company no longer gets commission from T-mobile, and hence they would not pay me my rebate. I do have the copies of the rebate form, and it clearly mentions the conditions for the rebates. I have satisfied all those conditions, and none of the information talks about the number change.

I?m extremely disappointed at this practice being carried on by these crooks. It?s very natural that if these guys give a number, which is in an inconvenient area code, the customer will have to have it transferred to the proper area code. Intelenetwireless uses this loophole to rip the customers off their rebate. (Most of the rebates are anyway forgotten by the customers due to the 181-day delay period).

.... Now the case is resting with Ohio Better Business Bureau!

Unfortunately, their system requires rebates to be applied to specific phone numbers. Did you completely close your account? Did you just change your mobile number? Did you change your account number for some reason (change of responsibility?)? When did you close your account?

<edit>

Was your rebate offered from a 3rd party company? i.e. the local mom-and-pop wireless store you bought it from?

the company no longer gets commission from T-mobile
Sounds like you're dealing with a 3rd party rebate, not a t-mobile rebate.

does the BBB actually resolve things or is it just like a message board to complain about companies ?

I just changed my mobile number since they gave me a number which was long distance from my home. By the way, the T-mobile rebate was pretty prompt ($100). This was the additiona $50 solely by intelenet that they have gobbled

BBB sometimes does resolve issues ... well at least soi I heard (my wife worked in Cincinnati BBB before marriage and 'claims' to be doing good work. Anyway such things sometime help .. once Lending Tree ripped me off of $100, and I got it when NBC 60 minutes called them to kick their ass!
