Hey I have a Laptop and I want to overclock my PC. I am new to overclocking but I know the basics. My PC specifications are IntelCoreI3-4000M CPU @ 2.4GHz. I want to play games such as dark souls and skyrim on higher graphics. What should I set and how much I can lower the multiplier, also voltage. I wanna get about 2.8-3.0 if thats possible.

Thanks Eli

Ummm that's a Haswell that is multiplier-locked. You won't be overclocking that at all. There isn't even any turbo.

You could maybe bump bclk up to 105 mhz for +5% clockspeed. That's the best you'll ever get.

Maybe you can OC the gpu? That's going to make the bigger difference in most games. But your bios probably wont even let you set the gpu clock.

Most OEM-built machines don't have overclocking options available in the BIOS even if the chips used inside can be overclocked (unlocked by Intel/AMD). They don't want to have to cover your system if you fry something running it above manufacturer specified ranges.

And laptops are even worse, they have very optimized cooling systems designed to deal with exactly the heat produced by your components (or, in some cases, not even adequate for these, and the system throttles down once thermal limits are reached). Overclocking would exceed these limits and the system would throttle down to protect itself.

You're not going to get anywhere near running Dark Souls and Skyrim on high settings with that laptop, the graphics processor just isn't powerful enough. Better off buying a second hand XBox 360 and playing them on that.

How do you know what the GPU is? Are you just assuming he is running Intel integrated graphics?

Also, he said "higher" settings. Not "high" settings.

You cannot raise the frequency of anything but you may be able to lower the voltage and reduce heat.

Ah thanks for the replies guys, well that sucks yeah right now I can run on medium what do you mean OC the gpu, is that like overclocking the graphics?

thanks
