Good day to everyone.

This is my first post so I'll take this chance to greet AnandTech people!

As title suggests I need to make a choice between those two CPU-s!
I can get Xeon X5660 with Asrock X58 Extreme motherboard for 180 €, and i7 2600k without motherboard for 220 €. PC will be used for heavy video editing and gaming. How gaming performance compares between these two? My GPU is GTX 660ti, resolution full HD.
I will not OC.

Thank You.

Get X5660 but remember 2600K will do better in single threaded apps.

"i will not overclock" is a bit harsh. you can always overclock a CPU, there's no real downsides to it unless you push it really hard; it's always a good idea to OC a little bit, simply because no reasons not to.

Is it possible to OC Xeon with this motherboard? I heard that server CPU-s are not easely overclocked... and if I'm to OC i7 or Xeon, is that doable with stock cooler (light overclock)? If not what budget cooler do You suggest?

And thank You all on response.

well thats not really my field; i do believe that you OC by raising the backclock, and im 100% sure that Xeons can be overclocked (there's threads about that here on AT) - they are actually a reasonable alternative to other desktop CPUs, especially because they can be found at very reasonable prices.

OC can be done within reason with the stock cooler; i don't know if you can find a cheap, efficient cooler for 1366, but on 1155/56 and 775 the beloved AC Pro7 / Evo is ridiculously cheap and reasonably close to what the best of aircooling can offer, for a fraction of the price.

(in short, wait a bit until someone who knows more than i do gives you better answers ():)
