I just want to run 60+ stable Virtual Machines with this build:

Asus Z9PE-D8WS
2 x (Intel Xeon E5-2630 2.30Ghz or Intel Xeon E5-2620 2.0Ghz)
80gbram
Sapphire Radeon HD 7950 With Boost 3GB GDDR5
250 SSD x2

Is it enough with E5-2620 2.0Ghz? im mostly affected by number of cores.

The computer im running atm can handle stable 30 VMs and unstable 36 VMs:
i7-4930k
64GB RAM
SabertoothX79
128+256GB SSD (one with Windows7 OS and the other for the VMs)
GTX 660 3GB

Thanks

Calculate the combined processing power and see. If your 4930K can handle 30, you need twice the processing power for 60.

And are you talking about SB Xeons or IB Xeons? I assume SB Xeons from your numbers. Get IB v2 Xeons instead.

But it seems your wish to run 60 vms on 1 machine will be expensive.

What's the kind of VM you want to run? You will be allocating less RAM per VM on your new rig than you are allocating with your current build.

Im mostly limited by the number of cores. Im actually trying to find the most cost-efficient build.

Win7 VM Workstation 10 with League of Legends client playing on it, 1 GB RAM and 3GB disk space, i only use 45GB RAM atm.

Im not sure if this one is enough:

or i need this one:

I doubt you end up with more than 40-45VMs with even the 2x2630 if you are CPU limited. Since you essentially only add around 25% raw performance. Remember IPC is lower as well on the SBs.

The cheapest solution that _might_ work would most likely be 2x2650v2

I can't say how much this workload is going to stress your workstation, but given that we are talking about a 30% clock difference, and both chips have the same TDP, I would opt for the 2630 v2. You would have far more performance to spare if you wanted to run something else on the rig.

Btw, you are comparing the 2630 v2 IVB against the 2620 SNB. The 2620 V2 can be found here:

http://www.amazon.com/INTEL-Xeon-E5-...ywords=2620+v2

More or less the same price but 15% less TDP, and a 100Mhz speed bump.

Ok some more info:

Each VM needs 1 GB RAM, 3-4 GB of disk space and you need 1GB GPU per 15 VMs. This VMs will have Win7 installed and will be playing a game.

Im trying to find the most cost-efficient build, any suggestion is welcome.

This runs 18 VMs:
8350 FX AMD
32GB RAM
650 GTX 2GB
SSD 250 Samsung evo

This runs 30-36 VMs:
i7-4930k
64GB RAM (45 is enough)
SabertoothX79
SSD 250 Samsung evo
GTX 660 3GB

This runs 48 VMs:
Xeon e5-2689
Asus Z9PA-U8
64 GB DDR3 ECC Kingston
Seagate Pro 250GB
HD 7950
Seagate gold 750 W

The game installed in the VMs minimum requirements:
CPU Speed: 2 GHz processor
RAM: 1 GB RAM (Windows Vista and 7 users will want 2 GB of RAM or more)
OS: Windows XP SP2, Windows Vista SP1, or Windows 7
Video Card: DirectX 9.0 capable video card support Shader 2.0
Free Disk Space: 8 GB

If a member can get banned here for selling game codes bundled with a video card, because some corporation says it's against the TOS, then this thread should be locked too. Because multiboxing / botting MMOs is generally against their TOS too.

Fair is fair, mods.

If I had proof, I would lock it. Where do you see that evidence ?

J. Using any unauthorized third party programs, including but not limited to "mods," "hacks," "cheats," "scripts," "bots," "trainers," and automation programs,

Or is the OP going to try to convince us that he is really playing 60 instances of an MMO, with a single keyboard and mouse, and two hands, without any scripting / botting? LOL!
