I'll believe it when retail parts hit. Now it may be likely they are trying to curtail ES leaks and people leaking info on them. Otherwise, if they do pull a move like that, it will make a LOT of people unhappy.

EDIT: Also, i've never seen intel give out info that readily on a chip that wasn't retail yet. Maybe other board makers will allow ES's to work, but with intel their official stance has always been "it's not supported".

According to all other available info, its more than probable than the Intel guy is wrong.

Yeah, I find it unlikely they would advertize anything pertaining to ES's at this time.

What about the other leaks out there on IVB-E with the early samples. Aren't those on X79? I don't care if I am unable to go to IVB-E. Its a marginal upgrade at best.. just like SB to IVB.

intel guys don't seem to like saying; maybe, soon, could be, when I don't know. if it's not in the bios today it's not supported, period.

It can actually even be released. But if its not on some support list website. Its not there.

the intel guys are trying to find out how he got an ES.
Could you please provide me the markings of your processor?

the guy is an idiot for posting on the Intel forums and not going to his distributor..
then again.. the guy is most likely not a authorized distributor period.

intel guys don't seem to like saying; maybe, soon, could be, when I don't know. if it's not in the bios today it's not supported, period.

no its intel telling the guy the cpu is NOT supported yet.
The microcode most likely needs to be updated and that is typically done on the board manufactor side.
That is why they get the first wave of ES's to make these bios microcode updates.

This guys is seeing the problem i had faced MANY MANY TIMES.
Prototype chips without bios microcode update making the current platform your on useless.

Anyhow... i had a few vendors which i held close to help me with issues like this.
I also had my distributor help me out with issues which were directly CPU related.

They had to send me beta non public bios to test on my platform to get said chips working.

So unless the guy is at a level where i used to be at with connections @ EVGA, gigabyte and Asus to help me out, hes gonna be sitting on worthless chips.

This ^^

yes...

lemme tell you what happened when i previewed gulftowns..

2 WEEKS!!! i was sitting on it for 2 WEEKS.. while Shimano was hammering out Bios's on my classified.
My distributor side kept going yada yada.. only works on 5280 server board... blah blah....
Shimano was emailing me to wait and not resend my chips back to distrib... WAIT a couple more days!! i fixed it.... <--- words which brought tears to my eyes... lolz...
Then i previewed the first gulftown on this forum, i was probably the first one on this forum with a working gulftown on a E759 classified.
I also helped uncleweb break out realtemp so it worked for gulftown... so all u guys who were on it, had a working REALTEMP.

Its a big mess.... earily adopter DONT WIN PERIOD, unless u have the connections to support it.

I dont mess with protoype ES's anymore... too much money goes into getting things which work on BETA BIOS's..
This is why i always had 3 different vendor boards EACH time i was researching a ES.
ASUS + GIGY + EVGA.
And holding onto connections is not easy either as people leave and join... its a never ending expensive hobby to be a reviewer.

I remember the gigabyte beta bios for X58-UD5 were out plenty early, and as soon as I got my gulftown I was able to use it, which was a while before release.

This was on tweaktown forums btw. They have a nice gigabyte bios collection.

Will older X79 mobos start with IB-E cpu and allow you to flash new bios with full support ?

I don't remember how it went with previous cpus.

Yes, all ASUS mobos x79 will support IB-E, and you can flash the bios by USB key without the CPU (I'm not sure for others, especially INTEL X79 boards).

I hope that my Intel DX79SI will support IVB-E. I wanted to upgrade to 4930K from the 3820 I have now. Not just buy a 3930K because I have to.

The latest BIOS for Intel X79 boards (0590) states in the release notes:
"New Fixes/Features: Updated Processor Support"

I interpreted that to mean IVB-E support since we are close to release date.

I guess its wait and see before I get too upset :)

Im sure you can mod the bios with the updated Microcode :) They do it all the time on the Gigabyte boards over at the Tweaktown forum GB thread.
