Intel X25-M G2 SATA II vs SATA III

I'm ready to give in and spend lots of $ for very little GB.

Was looking at the drives on ZipZoomfly - for some reason SSDs are cheaper then NewEgg.

Found the following drives:

Would it make sense to pay extra for SATA3 controller ? having 2 of these in raid-0 could potentially make use of the extra bandwidht.
 
Actually, Intel Doesn't have Sata 3 HDDs yet.

The first link actually refers to Sata 3.0Gbits/sec which is Sata II.

Raid 0 won't make any use of the extra bandwidth, even if it's really Sata III and you can really find a Sata II mobo. Raid 0 combines the speed and bandwidth of both drives.
 
SATA 3.0 doesn't exist officially, because its extremely confusing. It can mean both 3.0Gbps SATA (commonly known as SATA-II) - but can also mean SATA-III meaning 6Gbps SATA.

I prefer to drop the version numbers and state the bandwidth instead, so you have SATA 3Gbps and SATA 6Gbps. Both are much faster than any HDD can transfer data. In fact, even SATA 1,5Gbps wouldn't be a real bottleneck for HDDs.
 
Thanks for clearing this up guys. I agree the whole naming convention is quite confusing, esp when it's on the same site.

The product in question is a SSD. Most are already close to the 300 MB/s approximate barrier, if not already there. Hence, why SATA 6 Gbps SSDs exist.
