The second-generation Intel X25-M is the faster overall SSD, but i didn't know the Vertex mac edition had so different performance than the regular Vertex.

Does anyone know why?

I checked the price for the OCZ Vertex Mac Edition 250GB (from 612 euros)

and i found also that there is stock for Intel X25-M G2 Postville 320GB

I didn't know Intel released a 320GB G2 version already.

lol,

seriously now, the article says that probably its the firmware but they don't know for sure.
I just don't get why they didn't apply this firmware (if it is only this) to the regular vertex.
The regular vertex SSDs are only -10% cheaper than the Mac editions.

Some interesting news about the new Intel SSDs:

http://en.expreview.com/2009/1...-ssd-series-in-q4.html

Intel to Launch X25-X Budget SSD Series in Q4

Back in July Intel announced its 34nm MLC-equipped X25-M series SSDs, but the pricing is not so appealing to ordinary users. The good news is Intel is looking to introduce the more affordable X25-X series in Q4.

Delivering 170MB/s read speed and 35MB/s write speed, X25X will consume 90mW only during use and when idle it will drop to 75mW.

X25X 40GB should hit stores before the holiday, and hopefully retail for something around $160

Although i would like to see <=$120 for the 40GB X25-X

Nice! Didn't know they planned on doing this. 40GB is the perfect size for a regular home user, with Windows 7 they'll have plenty of room to spare.
