Intel X25 G2 drive supply issue

Why is a company like Intel having supply issues to vendors for their G2 SSDs?

I know demand is higher now since their MSRP is lower, and now TRIM support is enabled with conjunction of Windows 7 release.

But still..

I had no problem finding well over 4 to 5 suppliers with my Intel SSD to buy from a week ago. Just checked now with still four of the suppliers having it in stock.

Ordered from a third but I am expecting them to come back and say "None in stock"... despite having a "Live Stock Checker"

Both Newegg and Amazon have had the G2 in stock (OEM) for over a week. Amazon is at ~$245 and Newegg is ~$290.

Have you heard of Google?

That amazon one for $245 is not in stock. It has been out of stock for over a month. Shipping estimates went from '1-4 weeks' to '1-2 months' to 'we'll deliver when available' over the past 30 days.

Thats odd because I just got one off there last week, and it said "ships in 2-3 days" when I ordered, and that's exactly what happened. A few days before, it was 1-2 or 2-3 weeks. You just have to keep checking.

There were also a few other vendors on Amazon that were selling at the $245 price point that had them in-stock.

Edit: Newegg has both the retial and OEM in-stock at the start of the week, but only the OEM is still available for sale.

You threw attitude because you are apparently unable to find anything yourself. I supplied two places these are available (or have been over the past few days) OFF THE TOP OF MY HEAD.

You are lazy sir. Would you like me to find anything else for you as well? You probably have no intention of even buying the drive, and have nothing better to do than whine about it being hard to find (imagine that with Win7 released) and above MSRP (demand?). I paid a $20 premium to get an amazing drive, and don't regret it.

You, Thor86, are now on my ignored list. I will definitely not miss your attitude and lack of anything brought to the forums.

You have to watch amazon daily to find good deals on them. I first ordered a G2R5 for $214(!!!) from an independant seller. Of course, as soon as I placed my order I got an email from the seller saying they were out of stock, even though the listing said 'in stock.' He just didn't want to honor the price and he cancelled my order 2 days later. I found one listed a few days later for $255+$5 shipping and snapped it up. Haven't seen one in stock for less than $300 since, and I check almost daily.

As for Newegg, they had the retail version at $299 until about a month ago. I checked them on a monday morning and found them listed at $239(!!!). I put 2 in my cart but before I could press the order button they were removed from the cart because they 'were out of stock.' They have been out of stock at Newegg since. Coincidentally, the G1 was marked down to $239 a few days later leading me to believe the G2 @ $239 was a typo that I missed cashing in on by about 10 seconds. Since then the R5 went from $299 to unlisted to $329 and back to $299 all while remaining out of stock. The G2C1 has been in stock at $289 all along as you have said.

I got mine from AntOnline (sic?) through Amazon. I ordered the middle of last week and it shipped out this week Monday, received it yesturday. $245.00. IIRC, there were 6 "in-stock" when I ordered last week, but I doubt they lasted more than a few hours.

I threw attitude because your posts do not answer my original thread topic/question, and your grievious question regarding if I know Google. I think you need to learn to read and take things outside of "your" context. And I could care less if you ignore me, I don't even know who you are.

why can't you find them in stock?

1. demand is huge
2. it is a fairly new technology and ramping up mass production takes time.

this is something new, something intel hasn't made before, it takes time to build up the manufacturing capacity to supply the ENTIRE WORLD with SSDs (And that is what they are doing)

Just to clarify something for you Newegg made the G2 80GB their Shell-Shocker for that day, so it was actually $240 w/free shipping. I remember because my cursor was hovering ever so painfully over the Add To Cart button, but did not click because of moths hovering around my wallet.

I got mine from AntOnline (sic?) through Amazon. I ordered the middle of last week and it shipped out this week Monday, received it yesturday. $245.00. IIRC, there were 6 "in-stock" when I ordered last week, but I doubt they lasted more than a few hours.

I ordered mine a few weeks ago from Amazon and it was actually ANTonline that shipped it. It took a little over a week to get it from the time I placed my order, but considering most places were either out of stock or jacked up prices I was happy with everything overall.

But yeah, the 2.5->3.5 metal adapter thing is the only difference. I use mine so I'm glad I got the R5.
