Intel X-25M SSD drive - questions

Have a couple questions about the new SSD drive from Intel:

1. Does a bracket to mount it in a standard desktop case come in the box?
2. If anyone has one of these, would you mind giving your thoughts on it?

Have a couple questions about the OP:

1. How do you think the Intel "M" will benefit your particular computing tasks?
2. Are you independently wealthy?

No, not independently wealthy; I just lost a Velociraptor to an unknown affliction and need emotional support from a new gadget.

So is there a desktop version of the Intel x-25m?

There are adapter brackets so the 2.5 drive can fit in a 3.5 or 5.25 bay... Damned if I can remember where.

the regular version fits in a desktop, you just put it in a bracket... or heck, just tape it to the drive bay. OCZ sells an adapter thats really nice, and you can use it with the intel too since they use standard form factor.
The E is SLC vs the M which is MLC, they are the same physical size (but the E is 32GB instead of 80GB), but the E is much faster.

Because the "E" is FASTER.

BTW, You should stick with a VelociRaptor.

Eh, if he wants really fast, there's nothing wrong with going with an X25-M/E...it'll make the VR seem slow.

But Ylurien, don't you have warranty on the VR?

Sorry but the op asked 2 questions and this is really not relevent. People can spend their money how they choose. The OP is just trying to gather information.

To OP. If someone does not answer you soon about the bracket I will when I recieve mine here in a few days. I doubt it does though. It really should not be much of an issue but I won't know for a few days.

I'm just gathering information so that my comments are relevant to the OP's situation.

Thanks for your concern. 😉

Just in case it matters to anyone or is relevent to the OP's questions, lol. I am not independently wealthy and yet I have one of these coming. Hmmm...

No no no, thank you.

Why the same price for 1/3 the capacity? Is there some way to use the X-25M in a desktop?

There's no "desktop" or "laptop" SSD drives nowadays. The X25-M and X25-E is the same 2.5 inch size. Just get a 2.5 inch to 3.5 inch size and stick it in your desktop. Intel's target market is Desktop/Laptop for X25-M and Workstation/Server for X25-E though.

X25-E costs much more per GB because:
-X25-E is an SLC drive. SLC drives cost twice per GB
-X25-E has more space reserved for the controller, X25-E actually has 1/2 the capacity per flash chip but it dedicates more so it turns out to be more than 2x the price per GB.
