<< Ex-Intel employee Scott Berger, 40, sent more than a dozen explicit email messages from his computer at the company's Chandler, Arizona, plant to a chat room member he believed to be a 13-year-old girl. But when he went to a shopping mall to meet his chat room partner, 'she' turned out to be an undercover, male detective.

Berger was a member of the local town council and was running for mayor when he was busted. He was fired from Intel and unsurprisingly dropped out of the mayoral race after the arrest. He was sentenced to six years probation for the attempted rape of a child, banned from using a home computer and ordered to undergo three years of therapy for sex addiction.

Berger, who admitted the crime and his addiction last week, will also have to register as a sex offender until 2015.

The arrest resulted from a Tacoma, Washington, police sting set up to catch adults preying on children through Internet chat rooms. It is not known if the policeman with a penchant for masquerading as a 13-year-old girl will also have to undergo therapy. ®

Sick bastard.

I do have a question though: How is that attempted rape? That confuses me. I can see solicitation or something like that, but the term "attempted rape" to me doesn't encompass going to a mall to meet someone. That's like saying a pick-up line in a bar is attempted rape (according to some rabid feminists, I'm sure they think so). I suppose this could be because the other person is a minor and any solicitation is for statutory rape, since they cannot consent to sex. I am not too familiar with juvenile law.

Glad they arrested him. Wouldn't he have made a good mayor? He probably would have visited LOTS of local high schools and junior high schools.

Probably belonged to a local church. Maybe even a priest or officer.
After all, it really doesn't matter what we do in our private life?
Did Bill say that or was it Al? Thank God we still desire to protect the (Born) children from preditors.

I agree with andrew on all counts. yes that's a sick bastard.

<< an undercover, male detective >>

Did he try to rape the undercover cop ???

How is that a bad rap on Intel? I swear, people are just trying to find every piece of crap they can to post something negative about Intel. Intel did the right thing and threw out the piece of trash.

SamWoo: LMAO. They do say it makes the internet better. And since a lot of the internet is porn, hmm.... 😉.

I don't see how this looks bad for Intel. I also agree with Andrew.

> "[He] unsurprisingly dropped out of the mayoral race after the arrest."

Seems like the logical thing to me. By exhibiting the morals of a jackass, he now qualifies to run for president.

Best regards,
Floyd
