Intel wireless card slows network login

I have a toshiba tecra m3 with an intel 2200bg wireless card. This laptop is connected to a wired gigabit lan. When the wireless card is enabled it slows down the login process for 2-03 minutes at the "preparing network connections" screen. When the card is disabled in device manager the problem ceases. This machine is an XP SP2 laptop and has the latest intel drivers for the card. Any help is apprciated.

It sounds like Windows is using the wireless connection as the primary network connection and it is trying to get an IP address on the wireless connection (and waiting two minutes for it to fail and time out) before using the wireled connection.

Open the Network Connections window in the Control Panel (Start>Settings>Control Panel>Network Connections). Click on the Advanced menu and select Advanced Settings. On the Adapters and Bindings tab in the Connections box, move the gigabit connection above the wireless connection and click OK to tell Windows to only use the wireless adapter when it doesn't have a wired connection available.
