How effective is the VT, can you notice a difference when running VM on a PC with support for VT

Don't you have to be doing your virtualization with a real hypervisor to have a difference?

It's effective in that you can use it to install unmodified vista64 guest in a linux host using Xen (read: a real hypervisor). If you're virtualizing Linux on windows (or anything on anything using VMware) you won't see a difference at all.
