Intel Vs AMD for my money

Either option would suit me well. As many people have said before our eyes can't notice the difference between 100 Fps and 120Fps. The only thing nagging me is the upgradability of AGP in say a years time and the current availability of AMD pci-e boards.


The reason I said 3200+ was because I have high expectations of it's OCing but now that I think about it, I'd rather not take a chance. It would end up being either the 3800+ , 4000+ or the FX-55.

if you are at all interested in gaming, go a64. The performance loss in other areas (video encoding, document creation) is negligble compared to the performance increase in games. IMHHHHO, AMD is the only way to go right now. It performs much better in games, and the differences in other areas are differences I wouldn't ever see (document creation? yeah i do lots of that...)

that, and the p4 you chose is not even in the same ballpark, pricewise, as the a64 you chose...

there's a 200$ difference.

100fps vs. 120 fps is an unnoticeable difference, yes - but if you're getting framerates that high, you can safely crank up the reso and/or eye candy for higher image quality, and this is where the difference will come into play. And I believe the A64s did away with the encoding gap; while the Northwoods whipped the XPs in it, the current A64s and Prescotts are neck and neck, some codecs are faster with Intel, some with AMD - but neither wins in any by very much. On the other hand, AMD wins by a long shot in gaming and an even longer shot in price.
