Is there any good reason why I should avoid using an Intel Penium D 945 processor that does NOT have Intel Virtualization Technology, if I am just using the computer as a personal workstation for running non-business applications, surfing the net, e-mail, running folding-at-home, etc., etc. and probably will not be using multiply O/Ss ???

Or should I still consider going to a D 940 or up to a D 950 ?

Thanks.

You more than likely will never ever need to use VT so my opinion is that it doesn't matter whether or not the CPU supports it.

Next, you seem to be setting up (or upgrading) an Intel-based rig so, my opinion again...
The price at which the D940 ($183) retail at is just below that of a C2D E6300 ($187) and the new E4300 ($178) is even cheaper than the D940.

Price/Performance ratio will easily decide for you. Seriously contemplate getting one of those C2D CPUs.

Note: Prices quited from Newegg.

My 2 cents,
Cheex.
