I came across some specialty hardware for my business that calls for a "INTEL USB CHIPSET". In all my expriences at home, the VIA worked fine with most USB things. So anyone know what is the difference.

And say like a Motherboard based on the Intel 815e chipset will use INTEL USB chipsets?

Thanks in advance,.

Intel chipsets contain UHCI USB controllers. Via chipsets/discreet USB chips are OHCI USB controllers. No significant difference to the end user however (except for possible errata).

hi lambasa
I am planning to buy a p4 (northwood) from dell sometime in May(waiting for intel price cut).
How can I find out whether the dell PC that I am buying has built in USB 2.0 controller in the chipset?
:D

You would see (pretty visibly) it in the specs. I believe Intel will becoming out with an integrated USB 2.0 chipset in the next few months.

Any idea which chipset it is? I wonder if they will be out with it in May when they are coming out with p4 2.4 gig? and will they also have it on their P4 2.2gig?
I have waited for very long for this northwood and really don't want to wait beyond May.
It would be nice to see if they come up with this integrated USB 2.o chipset by then.

Right now, the only on-board USB 2.0 available is by means of a separate NEC USB 2.0 controller chip on the motherboard. AFAIK, the NEC chip is the only one supported to date by Micro$oft for USB 2.0.
