The Intel CE 2110 media processor is a complete system-on-a-chip (SoC) architecture that combines an embedded 1GHz Intel XScale central processing unit, MPEG-2 and H.264 hardware video decoders, DDR2 memory interface, 2D/3D graphics accelerators, and is supported by a modular software development environment. The platform architecture also allows CE developers and manufacturers to deliver pure IP or hybrid set-top-boxes designed to receive content from IP and digital broadcast pipes.

Integrated memory controller AND 2D/3D Graphics capabilites? AMD's Fusion may be in trouble...
Also, I am aware this is an intel XScale processor, not a full destop X86-64 Proc. Still, i thought the implications of this product were important.

Have you seen Intel's integrated graphics? I don't think AMD/ATI has anything to worry about.

True as that may be, I think the concept of an on-die integrated graphics controller is the first step towards the Fusion GPU/CPU combination.

However, this is the first news I have heard of Intel moving to produce processors with memory controllers... Do XScale processors inherently carry memory controllers, or is this something new?

Intel Nehalem is coming, it will have the integrated memory controller. We still have a couple of years to wait.

In that case, the Cyrix MedieGX took that first step a long time ago.

I would think fusion would hold a better product seeing has AMD has been doing On-die controllers for ages while intel has not. They have alot to catch up on, but nothing a 10 billion dollar budget can't fix.
