I'm looking for an ultraportable laptop that's equipped with this chip but haven't found much in terms of figuring out what type of performance i can expect from it.

Compared to say, an older Athlon XP chip, at which speed would this compare to?

well u won't be getting much performance.It'll be accpetable but u won't be able to heavily multitask or anythin.I'll put in line with a athlon 3200+.(not really sure if its a good comparison,forgive me if i'm wrong)
U will get amazing battery life though.And its performance will be definetly better than an athlon xp.

Make that an AthlonXP 1700+ and you're probably more in line. A 1700+ is probably faster in a lot of things too.
