Intel continues to invest in SSDs, and next in line is updated models in the performance class. The new 520-series, known under the codename Cherryville, takes over from the current 510-series and contains some interesting news.
According to previous data, it is storage of 2.5 inches which is connected to the SATA 6.0 Gbps. Intel updates the memory chips for 25 nanometer MLC and indicate sequential read and write speeds of up to 530 or 490 MB / sec and 45,000 IOPS random projections of the size of 4K.
Now it appears that Intel gets help from a not so expected direction. According to documents Sweclockers noted the 520-series contains a controller chip from SandForce, very similar to comparable models such as Corsair and OCZ.
Just SandForce-based devices are known to be affected by bugs and other problems related to the control circuit software. This has been remedied with varying degrees of success with a steady stream of new versions of firmware, but that the world's largest chip manufacturers now choose Sand Force may still be seen as a much-needed recognition.
Intel 520-series, "Cherryville" expected to appear in November.
