Intel to cut prices on 1066FSB chips when?

I would like to get a Quad 2.93Ghz CPU sometime to max out my 975x Chipset MB. But I don't want to pay $1000. So does anyone have any clue on when they may drop the CPU prices again? Or will they never drop that chips price and I may as well settle for a 2.66Ghz CPU.... Thanks

Intel has never dropped the price on any of their Extreme processors, that I'm aware of. Well, at least while anyone would want to buy them. For instance, you can now buy a Skt. 478 3.4 Ghz P4 Extreme for less than $200, if that interests you.

You're talking about 10% performance difference for $700 greater money.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but are you nuts?

The fastest/most full-featured chip (FSB1333 on quad-core, at this point) from Intel will always carry a price at or above $1000. Your best bet is to get a cheaper quad-core chip, a good CPU cooler, and do some overclocking. You'll save *a lot* of money.

People who buy Extreme chips and then complain about the cost (or complain about the cost and then buy one anyway) are idiots.
