The vast majority of my information is public knowledge, a very tiny amount is not...(and I can't disclose). That said, you should keep in mind a few things...

1. Coldpower is absolutely correct when he says that all future designs and processors are guesswork. This is true even for AMD and Intel themselves! If you'll recall, one of Intel's largest launches (percentage wise) ever was the (then) new Rambus based platform. It was cancelled in the very same week it was supposed to launch (they even had to issue a recall for over 1.5 million mobos)! Until a production chip gets shipped and then tested, it's still a crap shoot.

2. Experience has taught me that you should never base a buying decision on what the future might bring...certainly not for speed's sake. Conroe and K8L will basically be faster and faster, but they won't change the way I would build a system.

3. New technologies are a different matter...for example, one of the notes from Computex I was reading said that future (next year) video cards could require as much as 300w each! That's something I will probably start planning for now (I won't use anything less than a 600w PSU for example). Other things include AMD's Torrenza, Intel's Robson, Windows Vista, HDTV, etc...those are things I will take into consideration today when I build a system to try and make them as compatable as possible.

BTW, K8L is not a new generation of core..it's more like a rebuild of K8 with as many tweaks, added features, and optimizations as can be had on the core. The net result will certainly FEEL like a new generation, but technically it's not. The first of the new generation AMD cores I don't expect to see until 2008 on 45nm...

Lets see. K6, K7, K8, K8L, K10. You better believe it. LOL

Similar to why Intel didn't go "Pentium 5". Can we say redundant? hehe. Core 2 Duo isn't a much better name however. They should have called it something cool like "Juggernaut" series. (Yes, I'm a Marvel Comics fan, or was). :D
