The new Tigerton processors have two derivative?Xeon MP 7200 and 7300. Xeon MP 7300 is based on Quad-Core Tigerton-QC, a package of two native Dual-Core processors, and features 1066MHz FSB, VT, 64Bit, and DBS. This family includes: Xeon MP E7310 (1.6GHz/2MB x 2 L2), E7320 (2.13/2MB L2 x 2), E7330 (2.4GHz/3MB L2 x 2), E7340 (2.4GHz/4MB L2 x2), and X7350 (2.93GHz/4MB L2 x2). In spite of X7350, all the models in this family are at 80W TDP, while X7350 is at 130W. The prices are $856, $1177, $1391, $1980, and $2301 respectively.

What about Wolfs...bane?burg?dale?something? or whatever the name is for the chipset that runs the desktop version of Penryn... Would love to know if it will run on current-gen s775 boards or require new hardware revisions to fully support.

Sounds like the socket will stay the same, but due to higher fsb, Penryn will require a new chipset.

I've decided to wait for Nehalem. Quad cores are just running too hot for my liking.

Won't both quad Penryn and quad Nehalem be fab'ed on 45nm? If so, then can we really expect the thermal profiles of the two products to be all that dissimilar? By 30% or 40%?

remember the days when we used to be satisfied with a single core processor? When overclocking the Celeron 400A was an amazing achievement!! Ah, miss the old days. I just went dual core yesterday..not ready for 4 yet.

You won't need 4 for a while now, I'm jsut now starting to think that two might be a good idea (and much of that is due to companies inefficently coding newer stuff, there is no reason running programs like word along with others should rape my computer when its a freaking text editor).
