Intel testing video cards

I just got back from an Intel technology demo, they had a PC connected to two 50-inch plasmas, one was running movie, the other was desktop applications. The video card is a intel prototype, its got 2GB (yes, gigs) of ram on the graphics card! i asked him when it would be available but he said a smaller ram size card would be out soon. The graphics were outstanding.
 
Come on guys, if theres one thing the 512 meg X800XLs and 6800 Ultras have taught us its that the ammount of memory is the sole factor in GPU performance, not to mention theres also almost no additional cost. I meen, if that wern't true then the 512 meg X1800XT wouldn't offer double the performance of a 256meg 7800GTX and the 256 meg 9800pro wouldn't offer double the performance of a 128meg 6600gt. Plus I hear intel is going to use corporate synergy in this new video card project - can you imagine the raw power of Integrated Extreme Graphics 2 combined with the cool running and well engeneered technology of the Prescott series hyper-threading chips. I meen the card would be EXTREME and HYPER - it would have to be the best. :roll:

Dude, my old Radeon 8500 is defintly not a pos. It has served me well for many years and I still love doing some hardcore starcraft action with it!

it was probably on board ram, and the system was running a video of graphics it can't do.

yea...i'm sure intel would produce a video card that's heck of a lot better than nvida or ati...*being sarcastic*

it was a pci-express card, not onboard. dual dvi out is the only other spec i saw on it. the card was not huge or anything, relitively small fan on the card too. i'll ask around to see if anyone else has more info from the show.
 
Windows Vista will require 2GB VRAM :Q j/k

Is the GMA900 on i915 boards Vista compliant? They could be looking for a cheap discrete part to offer these customers.

That was brilliant!!!

BTW: I use the SGI InfiniteReality4 that has 1 GB of memory. No, that is no system memory, that is dedicated, on-the-card memory. The graphics is so powerful that SGI now uses ATI's FireGL cards. 😕
