Intel TAT not showing overclocked speed

hello everyone, new to the overclocking scene here. just recent built my rig, specs;

intel E4500
gigabyte ds3l
2 gigs of corsair DDR26400-800

here's my question. when i go into the bios, change the FSB from 200 to 266 to run at 2.93G (11x266), intel's thermal analysis tool (TAT) still shows me running at 2200 Mhz or 2.2 G. this reading is of course next to the temp readings. if i go back into the bios, it still shows the FSB at 266. anyone know why?

thanks in advance!

The stickies at the top of the forum are often extremely helpful. I would read around a bit if I were you, overclocking is widely discussed and you'll learn a lot. (For a quick answer, check the very top link).

Welcome to AT!

shortass, thank you for replying. yes, i have read that first thread. but it seems to me, unless im mistaken, that the thread is saying with speed stepping, the multiplier will be set to a lower multiplier if the cpu is not under load making it seem that your cpu is running at a lower speed than your overclocked speed. my situation is different where that at idle, the cpu speed is showing 2.2ghz. when i put it under load with orthos, it still stays at 2.2ghz as the temps rise. speed stepping only changes multipliers and not FSB's. is this correct?

it may just be that TAT is a bad program. i'll try CPU-Z.

Try turning off the power management options in your BIOS and then check with programs, it will let you know whether or not speedstep is the problem or not. I have no experience with TAT so I'm not sure whether it's good or not.
