Intel T7600 vs. T7600G: What's the difference?

I'm considering a Dell XPS 1710 laptop, and in looking at the current processor choices, the 2 fastest ones available are called "Intel Core 2 Duo T7600" and "Intel Core 2 Duo T7600G".

Besides the "G" variant costing an additional $275 over the plain "7600", what is the difference? I've been to Intel's website, drilled down thru an annoying number of pages, found only general comparison charts, did a search specifically on "T7600G", and came up empty.

While I realize the "G" suffix could be a Dell creation, it doesn't feel like it. I'm assuming the "G" variant gives the T7600 some extra capability, but can anyone tell me what that is? And is it worth an additional $275 over the non-"G"?

Also, while I am speccing out systems right now to get a feel for what's available, my actual purchase time will probably be July/August. I know there's a new CPU/chipset coming w/an 800MHz FSB--will that new technology likely be incorporated by end of summer? And if so, is it worth waiting for and paying the usual premium, or is the current 667 FSB good enough?

I should explain that my needs for this system are as a fast adjunct to my desktop, not as a total replacement for it, and meant to allow me to be mobile and wireless. I've considered a slower, cheaper laptop, but at the moment think my laptop turnover would more likely be once every 3-4 years, rather than 18-24 months as I do w/my desktops, so I'd prefer to spend a bit more on the laptop now, to have the power to handle the inevitable system-straining upgrades to Vista and applications that are likely to occur over the next 3-4 years.

G means unlocked multipliers

"Exclusive Intel has quietly begun shipping a clock-unlocked version of its mobile Core 2 Duo T7600 processor, but tracking one down may prove tricky. Not all PC makers are likely to offer the part - and those that do may not let slip the chip can be overclocked.

Dell quietly revealed the existence of the Core 2 Duo T7600G earlier this week when it announced a Blu-ray Disc supporting version of its XPS M1710 gamer-oriented laptop. Among the processor options offered to build-to-order byers was a 2.33GHz T7600G, priced at $275 more than the laptop's standard processor, the T7600, which is also clocked at 2.33GHz. Both CPUs have 4MB of L2 cache and run on a 667MHz frontside bus."

Ah... Thank you.

So if I'm not interested in overclocking my 1710, I can save the extra $275--or put it towards an option I might find more of use to me.

I know I am 6 years late to the party but I came across this thread a lot when looking for T7600G comparisons. I picked up a T7600G for my older Alienware M5750 and OC'd it from 2.33 to 2.66 GHz. I ran 3dMark Vantage and compared to my older T7400 which got a CPU score of 3800.4, the OC'd T7600G got a 4612.2. Not overclocked (running at stock T7600 speeds) it got a 4068.7.
