Intel SSD firmware update issue

Hi,

I have a Intel X25-M 160GB drive with frimware 2CV102HA. Now there is an update to 02HD.

When I tried to update the firmware, the system scan did not find an Intel ssd on my system. I have changed the SATA settings on BIOS to "Combatibility" mode from "AHCI" mode, and I could see the drive. I have already installed windows 7 ultimate on the SSD and and zillion drivers 😱 to support my lenovo w510 laptop.

My question is should I update the firmware in compatability mode and change back it to "AHCI" ? will it work ? I just dont want to blew up anything. (especially hardware) ?

Please any help and suggestions will be much appreciated...

regards

I would backup your SSD using any of your favorite drive cloner. Win7 has a backup imager and is perfect for your situation where you are doing a backup/restore onto itself.

After backup then yes... update in compatibility mode and change back to AHCI. One SSD I did a firmware update on before cleared the drive, while an Intel G1 SSD I updated didn't. I'm not sure about your G2.

thanks for your reply. I was just worried about giving it back to warrenty service and waiting endlessly. I will give it a try. When I get home.

Ok. I just updated it and it went well. Thanks for you answer.

I have a 160GB G2 R5 and there was no problem with the data after the firmware update. I hope it will help someone.
