I keep reading about various new Intel CPUs on the horizon, and clearly i7 has moved to a new socket and DDR3. What I haven't read anywhere is whether there's anything new on the horizon for socket 775. . . or have we seen the last new socket 775 chip already?

According to Fudzilla

I highly doubt its gonna work because its named Xeon. There probably is enough compatibility issues to essentially conclude it doesn't work even if its electrically and physically LGA775.

and why should it not work?
have you not read OP's message, he just simply asks if Intel is going to release any other 775 socket cpu's.

and just to make things clear. S775 xeons will work on P45 chipset motherboards, just look around @ user's sig.

go read some sigs

You are probably thinking they are referring to a LGA771 chip and trying to put it into an LGA775 socket.

Xeon models that start with X3### or E3### are LGA775 chips. Xeon's that start with X5### or E5###are the LGA771 chips.

For examples see: http://processorfinder.intel.c...ProcFam=528&SearchKey=

On LGA771 sockets you can already get 3.4GHz Harpertowns. But the max currently available for LGA775 harpertown xeons is the 3GHz X3370.

I doubt I am telling you anything new, just fleshing out the details for any would-be lurkers in the audience. Pretty sure you were thinking the discussion was about an LGA771 xeon up there.

Exactly!!!! Amazing what a name makes some people think...........

Xeon 775 socketed cpus work in pretty much any motherboard compatible with the equivalent C2D/C2Q cpu. I even had a Xeon X3210 working in an Intel X975 BadAxe motherboard...flawlessly.
