Has Intel stopped making the PIII Slot-1 CPU? I only ask because I am considering purchasing a PIII 1000mhz Slot-1 for one of my systems and need to know if I should do it sooner rather than later.

But you can get adapters as well

FC-PGA to Slot One adaptor
or Powerleap just released one that lets you use the Pentium Tulatine processors in a Slot 1 board.

But it depends on what motherboard you have

Yes.. I believe Intel has discontinued their Slot 1 line of PIII processors. The only ones you'll be able to find these days with 100FSB are the 850 and the 1GHz versions, and those are becoming quite scarce (believe me, I just looked)

More interesting though is the powerleap slot1-socket370 adapter which lets you use the new Celeron 1.2 tualatin core. This is basically the fastest processor a 440BX motherboard can now support.

Yah all Slots have been halted for awhile now...that's why they're still so damn expensive. Furthermore, I think all P3 production will cease on December 9?...don't remember exactly but I know it's this month. :(

A mate has just picked up a not bad specced Compaq P-II 266MHz box, second user obviously. The board has jumpers for 100MHz FSB. Has he any chance of getting a recent (i.e. available) P-III or Celeron working on it? Maybe I better work out what chipset it is...

"The board has jumpers for 100MHz FSB."

Not unless its a 100fsb with an AGP divider for 2/3. The old LX boards would sometimes have settings for 100fsb, but running them at that threw the AGp up to 100MHz! If its a 440BX or 440GX chipset then you'll be all set.

btw - Why pay for Slot-1 when a slotket can still be had for under $10!?! Get the FCPGA version of the 1.1GHz P!!! for under $145 (before shipping) at PRICEWATCH.COM under this P!!! 1.13GHz title. Be sure to spec for one of the 100fsb versions.
