I use it for gaming. And while I see the 6700k has a slight advantage with hyperthreading, at overclocked speeds the difference is minimal. I just don't think the small difference is worth $100.

I said the same thing when I got the 3570k vs 3770k but regretted it in the end.

I cant get a fix on the ETA of the i7 6700k. From this thread
https://www.reddit.com/r/hardware/comments/3gf1s2/eta_for_i76700k_skylake_in_storesneweggamazonetc/
Some people talked to Microcenter and have said a week to 2 weeks. One person chatted with Newegg and they said they expect the 6700k by September 24th
Im not going to get the i5 6600k and settle. Not sure what to do at this point. I dont want to get the cpu more than thirty days past my mobo. Past that point i cant return the motherboard to Newegg if something is wrong with it for exchange and would have to deal with Asus which would take longer.

Same as 4670 vs 4790K :whiste:

No.

But again, CPU performance isnt your strong side.

Let me guess Kaby Lake will be 5% faster than Skylake and Cannonlake will be another 5% faster than Kaby Lake. We won't be getting any exciting desktop CPU launch from Intel for a long time.
AMD launches on the other hand are going to be a fun ride with Carrizo and Zen coming up.
@ShintaiDK
you wasted your money because there is going to be negligible difference in your gaming experience going from Haswell i5 to Skylake i7 but it's your money so you can waste it as much as you please.

The Z170 platform is the biggest draw for me to upgrading from an i5 2500k at 4.3ghz. I only have 128GB SSD too, so going to the latest and greatest NVMe SSD's will be good too. I'm looking forward to upgrading in a few months to an i7 6700k.

Core i5 6600K available at TigerDirect. Does not require MB combo. Newegg is allowing purchase without motherboard combos now too.

A second look at yesterday's Skylake-U leak. Low-end lines like Celeron, Pentium and Core i3 got the most significant performance boosts. My guess is Broxton & Apollo Lake will raise the bar of Atom's performance next year so it makes sense to reinforce the distinction between the Atom and Core lines performance-wise.

Core i3 6100U (Skylake-U): 2C/4T @ 2.3GHz, 100-150MHz higher iGPU Turbo clock than Broadwell-U
Core i3 5005U/5010U (Broadwell-U): 2C/4T @ 2.0GHz/2.1GHz
Core i3 4100U (Haswell-U): 2C/4T @ 1.7GHz

Skylake-U Pentium now supports HT. It's essentially a cheaper Core i3, except for the GT1 iGPU. Perhaps there is a chance we will get a 4-threaded desktop Skylake-S Pentium too.

Both Skylake-U Pentium and Celeron now have an iGPU base clock of 300MHz, up from Broadwel-U's 100MHz.

Pentium 4405U (Skylake-U): 2C/4T @ 2.1GHz, 150MHz higher iGPU Turbo clock than Broadwell-U
Pentium 3805U (Broadwell-U): 2C/2C @ 1.9GHz
Pentium 3556U (Haswell-U): 2C/2T @ 1.7GHz

Celeron 3955U (Skylake-U): 2C/2T @ 2.0GHz, 100MHz higher iGPU Turbo clock than Broadwell-U.
Celeron 3755U (Broadwell-U): 2C/2T @ 1.7GHz
Celeron 2981 (Haswell-U): 2C/2T @ 1.6GHz

Taking a look at the Surface Pro 3 and what we should see inside the Surface Pro 4:
- Surface Pro 3 Core i3 4020Y: 1.5GHz dual-core, no turbo, GT2 Gen 7.5 iGPU.
- Surface Pro 4 Core i3 should receive either Core-M (not likely according to leaks) or Core i3 6100U : 2.3GHz dual-core, better IPC, no Turbo, GT2 Gen 9 iGPU.

- Surface Pro 3 Core i5 4300U: 1.9GHz dual-core, 2.9GHz turbo, GT2 Gen 7.5 iGPU.
- Surface Pro 4 Core i5 6300U : 2.4GHz dual-core, 3.0GHz Turbo, GT2 Gen 9 iGPU.

- Surface Pro 3 Core i7 4650U: 1.9GHz dual-core, 2.9GHz turbo, GT3 Gen 7.5 iGPU.
- Surface Pro 4 Core i7 should receive either Skylake-U GT3e (real Iris Pro with eDRAM) or Core i7 6600U : 2.6GHz dual-core, 3.4GHz Turbo, GT2 Gen 9 iGPU.
Note that a Skylake GT2 Gen 9 iGPU should easily be faster than Haswell's GT3 Gen 7.5 iGPU at 15W, but I'm hoping they will postpone the Core i7 model or put the Core i7 6600U in there and include Skylake-U GT3e SKU as an option later on.

Apple needs 15W Skylake-U GT3e to deliver their long awaited Macbook Air refresh (probably a redesign, retina display).

Well I checked some online stores in Europe, and several reported that they were out of stock and would get new supplies by the end of August.

I havent seen a country in europe yet where you couldnt buy one.

And from release day you could buy them in 100s all over Scandinavia.

Finland seems to have shortage of i7 6700's and delivery time looks to be ~20 days, estimate. i5 6600's are in supply and easily available.

I said the same thing when I got the 3570k vs 3770k but regretted it in the end.

I got i5 750 @ 3,8GHz way back when and it has kept me in gaming all the way to this day. Either ancient Lynnfield is somehow super good CPU or i5 has more than enough juice for gaming. Now it's time to upgrade to i5 6600K tho.

No, I am talking about ST.

And stop asking if you only wish to try twist it into your own agenda.

Well, I just found it funny that you for so long have been arguing against moar threads/cores, and for the importance of lower power consumption. Yet now you are changing to a CPU with moar threads and higher TDP.

So have you changed your mind after all this time, or what's the reason?

Webhallen isn't Finnish company even when it delivers to Finland with reasonable price and has very clumsily translated website :b Webhallen is Swedish company and many don't consider its stock as stock within Finland.

When I look stock of local stores I look up stores like Jimms and Verkkokauppa.

That all said Webhallen is option for Finns and at times good one from price point.

You can show me the 4/4.2Ghz stock quadcore without HT.

Get over your issues. Unless your only purpose is to troll.

There is only one region with confirmed supply problems. And that is in the Americas.

Reality tells a different story. Just check the availability and you'll see they are out of stock in several stores in Europe too, and won't get new supplies until end of August.

Well its a global world. Take places like Proshop, Komplett, Pixmania, CDON etc. multiple countries, still one center of operation.

I have no "issues", nor am I trolling. I just found your purchasing decision interesting given the opinions you've been voicing on the forum previously.

Zen could be interesting, but Carizzo and "a fun ride" are two things I never expected to see in the same sentence. Unless you consider 768p craptops a "fun ride".

Crysis 3 settings : 1920*1080 Very High, sans anti-aliasing.
ARMA III settings : 1920*1080 Ultra, sans anti-aliasing.
x-plane 10 settings : 1920*1080 sans anti-aliasing.
F1 2013 settings : 1920*1080 sans anti-aliasing.
Watch Dogs settings : 1920 * 1080 with a level of overall quality Ultra without anti-aliasing.
Total War Rome II Settings : 1920 * 1080 Extreme but by disabling the AA and SSAO.
Company Of Heroes II Settings : 1920 * 1080 maximum quality made exception of anti-aliasing.
Anno 2070 settings : 1920 * 1080 with very high settings and still no anti-aliasing.

That is not how you going to play with your GTX980, the difference from 4790K vs 6700K at default is negligible.

Could someone explain to me why some people want gaming benches to hit GPU bottleneck and be GPU benches when these benches should be about Skylake CPU performance?

I've never understood why people focus on today's top cards when talking about a CPU you'll keep for years. Presumably, GPU's will get faster. When they do, you'll want to have the faster CPU to keep up with them.
