Intel sales start is on a Sunday usually after review NDA disclosure. We may have to wait till next Monday.

Do you think these CPUs will be available to purchase on the announcement day? Or will it be like broadwell where it is two months later and they still aren't available to buy in the USA yet outside of full systems.

Some 5GHz results showing up.

Intel using their monopoly power to screw over consumers. :whiste:
Took me 5 minutes to realize it was a sarcasm haha

skylake-price-1.jpg

The 35W quads are looking tempting. Fair pricing (so much for Intel monopoly doom predictions) and not that much slower than 65W models.

Beautiful. :)
Agree, I'm thinking in getting either one of those low-power i7s (35W, 65W) or the top i7-6700K. I want the fastest chip with the least power consumption/thermal envelope, the i7-6700 sound like the right choice as I'm quite confident I won't need overclocking for a while but then can't ignore the nice 4.0Ghz (stock) of the i7-6700K :p and the overclocking capabilities in the future, hopefully Skylake reviews include some of the low-power variants so I can make the decision sooner.

As for the box, I find the front side looking awful, they should of have done better. The clean blue like the previous chips look much better, but whatever is just a box what matters is what is Inside™ :p

It is weeks that there s a damage control campaign going on, numbers are what they are and most of the made up screens are easily detectable.

The one above imply that the chip frequency/voltage scale perfectly from 4 to 5Ghz, wich is effectively possible if it is cooled with LN...

Yeah I won't base overclocking capability on early ES samples and I wouldn't even run over 1.3vcore (even that seems high) through Skylake 14nm CPUs for longevity.

Well, the more I read about Skylake, the more Haswell-E looks like the right choice...

Reasons you've arrived at this conclusion? Price? Perf? What you're coming from? for me, Skylake may be a better option coming from Sandy.

I dont believe you will see any difference from your 4.3GHz Sandy to Skylake, unless you really want new motherboard features.

Edit: Especially with your 4K monitor.

I'm going to have to disagree. I think you'd be surprised too. Check this out:

"Looking back on the generational improvements since Sandy Bridge is actually rather interesting. I remember using the i7-2600K, overclocking it to 5.0 GHz and remembering how stunned I was at the time. Step forward 4.5 years and we have a direct 18.6% increase in raw performance per clock, along with the added functionality benefits of faster memory and a chipset that offers a lot more functionality."

And this chart doesn't even include Skylake benches, which are sure to be better than Broadwell. Now is a great time to upgrade your SandyB rig if you can afford to.

Very little information should be derived from CPUZ shots. I screenshotted my 2500K at 5.4 Ghz within a couple hours of overclocking.

CPUZ screenshot =/= stable overclock

Aten Ra shows gaming at 4K. Vs. Ian's generational IPC composite of lotsa benchmarks. Apples and oranges.

IPC increase is real. Not surprisingly, doesn't matter at high res.

IDK why I quoted all of this. I guess everyone in this thread is asking if they should upgrade to Skylake. The aforementioned posts bring into perspective what most of us already know: if you're gaming, spend the money on a graphics card. For other applications, there's been consistent performance gains with each CPU generation, and lower power consumption, creating compelling reasons to upgrade.

I really don't see how anyone can expect overclocking to work well here - the 95w models are surely very clearly already well past the point of diminishing returns?

Look at say the i5 6600T vs its K. 35w vs 95w but 90 percent of the performance when its holding its boost clocks.

They've optimised for low/medium power operation, which is what most people actually want. Including me as it happens - if/when I do move off my ivy i5 it'll either because its died or be to go for an even smaller box, so a very low TDP processor. The 35w Skylake ones should be easily fast enough.

If you were in the mood, you could get that 2500K to 4.8 or higher and have Skylake performance by the end of this evening.

If according to Ian's generational review, broadwell is 18.5% IPC increase over SB.

Let's assume Skylake is 7.5% increase over broadwell (not unimaginable for a TOCK). Then Sky is

(1.075)(1.185) = 27.4% faster than SB

Or in other words, a 6700K @ stock 4.2 turbo = SB @ 5.35 Ghz

This depends on my 7.5% increase assumption. But Skylake should be comparable to topped out SB. And after OC, a very clear winner.

By my math and arbitrary 7.5% assumption number, Skylake at 4.5 Ghz is would be equivalent to SB @ 5.733 Ghz

Any word on when 580 Graphics Skylakes are coming? - Is there likely to be much of a difference between say 530 and 580?

BGA Skylake GT4e comes in Late 2015 - Early 2016 for notebooks & Xeon E3-1200.
LGA1151 Skylake GT4e should be out 1 year after Broadwell-K, early Q3 2016 is my guess.

Considering Broadwell-K (48 EUs, eDRAM) is twice as fast as Haswell (20 EUs), >2x in some titles, Iris Pro 580 (72 EUs, eDRAM) could be 2-3x as fast as HD Graphics 530 (24 EUs).

Thinking it's Q1 '16 for BGA Xeon:
