You and I both know that overclocking does not void warranty unless you admit to it. Go ahead and try to deny delidding your processor.
If they can pop the lid during RMA, they can sure have a fuse that would blow up if you ever modify the multiplier. Of course that never stops anyone from lying about it, but that's the possibility that counts.

der8auer showed the delid with a 6-C SKL-X, which means the LCC die. The HCC die would be even bigger, so there is a possibility that it *might* be soldered.

Hopefully... And ehm, what die is the 7820X on? LCC? The no solder news has caught me off guard and I'd like to see some trustworthy reviews on the limitations it will bring since I will not be delidding. I will use an excellent AIO, however.

Actually LCC is 10C, MCC is 18C and HCC is up to 28C. The LCC die should be relatively small.

Reports that Skylake-X will be TIM-based are starting to arrive. There goes all that OC "headroom." Wonder how the folks planning to buy based on supposed 4.5 GHz OC are feeling right now.

I'll wait for others to be the guinea pigs and see their results before I pull the trigger. I mentioned earlier that the 8 core model appeals to me but I have no plans to purchase it until a month or two after launch - by then, we should know about OC results, best boards, etc.

As expected Kaby Lake-X breaking records for ST performance. Should only be surpassed by 14nm++ Coffee Lake-S 'K' later this year. There's also some Core i9-7800X/7900X submissions, notice the higher clock speeds they are achieving compared to Broadwell-E at launch day (at least under LN2). Reviews can't come soon enough (June 11/12 is the date, if we believe BenchLife).

The cat is out of the bag!

- Ridiculously fast 18C AVX-512 enabled Core i9-7980XE for nearly the same price as 10C Core i7-6950X (Teraflop CPU)
(...)
- New overclocking features including AVX-512 ratio offset
To get 1 TFLOP with AVX-512 on a 18-core CPU with two FMA units you need about ~900 MHz.

As a reminder KNL gets 6 TFLOP. Of course I'd not hesitate between i9 and Phi :D

Speaking anecdotally, Intel seems to give unspecified flops ratings in terms of double precision. Not that it makes much sense here since they'd want a higher number for their shiny marketing slide, but there is perhaps hope it will be fully enabled.

My estimate (not based on knowledge, but instead on how Intel has been pricing their chips, including the i7 extreme which the i9 seems to be a replacement for):
7900X: $1000
7820X: $580
7800X: $400
7740K: $350
7640K: $250
That pricing is too tight for the high margins that Intel aims for with HEDT.
Yeah, not going to happen. Once you kill your margins, you can almost never get them back.
Ahem. Care to comment now?

Launch prices:
7900X: $999 ($1 less than I predicted)
7820X: $599 ($19 more than I predicted)
7800X: $389 ($11 less than I predicted)
7740K: $339 ($11 less than I predicted)
7640K: $242 ($8 less than I predicted)

That is half a lineup.

So, after Intel have collectively got themselves a new pair of boxers, when will they get around to announcing the other half of the "family".

Leaving aside the outright panic this "half-launch" exudes, what is the max all-core clock of those chips? For say 7820, is it somewhere between 3.6 and 4.3? Or is it 3.6?

I am quiet impressed by the line up but there some really really silly stuff , I mean what is the darn point of i5, and some of the i7 it makes no sense any more. For anyone on a budget but still want some MT performance there is nothing except Ryzen ....

The fact that intel is still not shifting 6/6 to the core i5 line and 6/12 base as base to i7 is just insulting to those buying in that bracket. If you want any form of MT performance at intel you have to go second hand market or go to the extreme platform. It must be almost 10 years ago that we gotten 4/4.

PS/UPDATE yes i assume the shift will actually happen with canon-lake. But i was expectign for EXTREME i5/i7 base 6/6 -> 6/12
