Or the last year...The amount of work I expected to have in 2016-2017 was what lead to upgrade last summer..

Knowing what I know now...I knew I should have waited for Sky-X

Sweepr, its been a minute..Do you work for Intel, I can't remember?

With all this excitement I simply can't help but feel my 6800K is a total POS at this point. I'm hungry for some 4.6ghz 8 core action. THAT PRICE THOUGH. What will it be? If they limit the chip to 28 lanes, that would suggest a much lower price, similar to 6800k but maybe a bit more. So more details tomorrow? I'll be there with a fresh pot of coffee.

Do we really need more than 4C-8T for gaming in the near future? Even with DirectX 12, I don't see games utilizing it much.

4C-8T is already close to max utilization in select modern games. You'll see what some of us talked about as soon as 6c SKL-X benchmarks show up in reviews, especially when matching clocks with 7700K.

You don't need the 18 core i9 to beat Threadripper. The 12 core may be enough. Anyway, my submission was about outright performance crown. How long ago since AMD lost that title? :p

Shouldn't there be some official news coming in, it's late afternoon in Taipei on the 30th... Did I get something wrong with the times?

    Edit: spoke too soon

While I do see that happening with Battlefield 1 and few other games, I also see that majority of users are already running 4C-4T Core i5 and 4C-8T Core i7. Not all of them will go and buy new Ryzen or C6-C12 CFL-S immediately. People are upgrading their PC slowly.

This makes me believe that judging by the laziness of game developers, they will likely again target the largest market which at max is running 4C-8T due to Intel dominating the industry in last 5 years. Even if I calculate starting today, 6C-12T will take 2 years easily to become mainstream and widespread enough assuming everyone starts buying 6C-12T with unlimited funds from today.

The footnotes regarding SPECInt_2006 performance differential comparing the 6950X and 7900X doesn't inspire much confidence.

Core i7 7740X and Core i5 7640X seems odd to me. They provide little benefit over 7700K and 7600K but need a lot of cooling prowess while giving same Core count.

But I guess enthusiasts upgrade their CPU every year or two so anyone can buy a 7740X and in a year or two purchase a 7820X.

Wow, only $2k for the top end. That's less greedy than i had expected.
    Uh, where?
EDIT: Nvm, found it, though in hindsight is it surprising that IPC stayed basically the same, clocks will be higher anyway.

It seems i was right about new L3 hierarchy, Intel went to eviction cache just like AMD. While it can prefetch on it's own unlike AMD's design, it is still an interesting decision

well, if you were going to buy the 7700K + expensive MB anyway it makes perfect sense, you get the possibility of upgrades,

I think those prices are interesting, they don't really change things for the Ryzen 1700 much, but it kills the 1800x and limits the price AMD can ask for their 12-16c CPUs quite a bit I think

18c for $2K is a lot but looks great compared to 1.7K for 10 cores.

So, looks like barely an IPC improvement over HSW-E, 5.7Ghz 6 core kind of matches 6Ghz 5820k.

The 7740K and 7640K, and especially the 7740K, don't make any sense as stop-gap CPUs given that the 7800X will be just north of 400$. Budget-conscious and HEDT don't usually go hand-in-hand.

The 1700 and 1700X already killed the 1800X, especially the 1700X if getting to 4GHz is your primary concern.

Intel was more aggressive that expected with pricing for Skyalake X but they leave room for AMD to offer up to 2x better value.

The 6 cores will be the only one that sells well , if it can OC - ofc then it also makes Kaby Lake 4c/8t look silly.

Great reasoning. Now apply it to your upgrade from i5 to i7 only a few months before i7 7700K will essentially become the i5 8600K (if not worse). What do you think happens to 7700K prices in Aug. when Intel ships cheaper i5 with same computing potential?

Actually what do you think happens to 7700K pricing once 6c/12t SKL-X hits the market at $389 MSRP? When I said 6c-8c is the "new meta" for gaming I did not mean one should automatically buy one. The value game gets a reset though, and people riding the R5 and i5 trains will get a lot more value than you think.

There never ever exsisted an ipc uplift from HSW to SKL that was presented in this forum. I was an pipedream - as shown by eg AT 1.5 year back - and now reality hits. It was bound to happen. The performance is as expected.
There is a tdp reality that people need to catch on besides from the ipc reality. Its 14nm after all.
Its performance is fine and the price is fine. Especially the 18c at 2k looks nice but the 8c is very nice too. Great times.
AMD top tier segmentation of 1800x is -predictable from months back- bound to take a hit. 420 it is now. Better take the decision themselves than wait for it.
Pretty exicting times for hedt market !

For comparison, 6.2Ghz 4770k is matched by 5.7Ghz 7700k. There is actually lower IPC differential between HSW-E and SKL-X than between HSW-S and SKL-S.

    So, please, quit BSing.
