The eDRAM interface is on the long axis. This setup won't fit in LGA1151.

A Skylake-C version is going to need a bigger socket or a new GT2/GT3 die without the hilariously long GPU.

SKL 4+4e for LGA will fit with 64 MB edram.

Changes in the die layout would seem to have made it impossible to offer any Skylake 4+4e in LGA1151, even a cut down version would probably be too large.

Why is Intel targeting a 4+4e launch between Q4-Q1 2017? This is a model with 64 MB of edram. Are you not aware of this?

Don't you think Intel would be aware of the size incompatibility before they start even thinking/planning about it?

I had not seen that roadmap before, thank you for sharing it with me. I beg your pardon for my ignorance.

Even though i am picking up a skull canyon nuc, i can't get excited about intel. Picked up a sammy 256gb nvme drive and ddr42666 sodimms.

How can i become excited with intel products?

Where does it say it is only ~215mm2 ??

Edit. Broadwell-H is 168mm2. So yes another 24CUs (~41mm2) will make the die close to 210-220mm2

Broadwell-H die size on page 8 link bellow.

Yea, you are right. You can estimate the figure for Skylake by looking at the embedded board and taking the known eDRAM size as a baseline. It comes out to be 205-215mm2.

It may be large for a 14nm part, but its not large at all historically. All companies are just charging you more for cheaper devices. The "yield issue" may be real, but the bigger reason is likely that at least for certain markets(like PC) the market is declining, meaning less revenues. Higher selling prices + lower costs of production offsets that significantly, likely the reason for Intel's revenue on PC not decreasing as much as the general PC market does.

That is a huge die for 14nm. Almost 120-130mm2 is dedicated to the iGPU alone.

GT2 is roughly 41 mm² big, that means GT4 with 3 slices can't be 120-130 mm² big. The uncore doesn't exist in Intels GT slice, no doubling or tripling. But there may be some extra space reserved for the edram connection.

In 5 days (May 12) the Skull Canyon NUC will be released @ Newegg. What are your predictions for Iris Pro 580, Intel's first GT4e SKU?
