What I want to know is, will Rambus sue Intel because of this? I would like to see them do that.

RAMBUS is in a tight spot with Intel. According to the contract, RAMBUS can revoke the license if Intel doesn't meet there end of the bargain. However, if Intel feels the need to make a main stream SDRAM chipset because RAMBUS sucks, then whey in the heck would it bother Intel if RAMBUS yanks their license? All it would really manage to do would be to crater RAMBUS memory REALLY quickly. All in all, I don't think Intel needs to worry too much about RAMBUS. Besides, Intel has more lawyers on the payroll than RAMBUS has employees. Period.

Now wouldn't that be something, Intel and RAMBUS suing eachother and wasting millions on parasite lawyers while AMD and VIA come up the middle ;)

If intel release this Almador in Q1 2000 with the DDR disabled would be real sweet if it was just a simple mod to the motherboard that would activate it like doing the L1 contact joining on the Duron/Tbird :D
Maybe this way Rambus couldnt revoke their license and people could have their motherboards converted at the POS before taking home with them :)

I personally do not think RAMBUS is "that" crazy to sue Intel over this. They have surprised me with their behavior so far so why not alienate them all?

I won't be surprised to see a high end server geared motherboard with onboard Rambus (soldered on) developed. I'm just glad to see it possibly slipping away from the mass market in a rimm form.

Post it if you see anything new.

Hmmm... I'm not so sure that Rambus can really lay a lot of pressure on Intel. Think about it, Intel is the only company marketing a RDRAM solution. Say Rambus sues Intel, Intel then cites "delays" in bringing a Rambus solution for the P4 and rolls out a DDR solution for the P4 as a "stopgap measure." Rambus would be up sh!t creek without a paddle. Intel is in a really great position to be able to stick it to Rambus, and I'm sure Rambus realizes it.

I guess this is the worst day in Rambus history, first Infineon sues them beucause of SDRAM and RDRAM patents, then Intel leaves them.

It has been a tough marrage, but I´m glad they broke up.

Yep, Rambus sues Intel, Intel will win. Without a doubt. They can countersue against Rambus for "anticompetitive business practices." Basically, saying that Rambus is trying to make itself a monopoly. Also, with Intel being the ONLY company supporting Rambus, if Rambus sues its pimp, Intel will just b!tch slap it and say, "So long ho'..." and then we'll have defeated the cancer of the computer industry, Rambus. Boy, wouldn't that be cool! :)
