In addition to lowering prices for the lowest models of Pentium III, Intel is reported to plan the same for all of its chipsets:
Oct 29 Dec 31 Mar 31
Intel 850 $75 $56.50 $53
Intel 840 $53 $51 $50
Intel 820E $34 $33 $31
Intel 815 $32.50 $31.50 $31.50
Intel 815E $37.50 $36.50 $34.50
Intel 815EP - $34.50 $32.50
Intel 810E2 $34 $33 $31
Intel 815EM (mobile) $47.50 $45.50 $43
You may notice that:
Intel 815EP chipset is not that cheap as mainboards manufacturers (and customers) would wish and has an over $30 price instead of the initially expected under $30.
Intel 850 chipset is far too pricey for desktop PCs. Moreover, it will stay too expensive (on the level of Intel 840) even in the end of the first quarter of 2001.
Intel has no under $30 chipset whatsoever. That?s the opportunity VIA has taken (and it will proceed) to promote its own chipsets.
