I am not sure if I am in the minority, but every IRST driver AFTER 11.2.0.1006 causes my Rapid Storage Technology service to not start. If I try to start it, it starts briefly then stops. I have uninstalled and reinstalled up the whazoo (tech term meaning many times) with any number of the newer drivers and the problem persists. I have read all of the 'fixes' people have tried and none have worked for me. Does anyone else have this issue? Was anyone able to resolve this?

For now I am back to the 11.2.0.1006 drivers.
 
many times the OROM and sata driver needs to be matched up with the proper IME drivers to get things all worked out. ie; matching 11.2 OROM with 11.2 drivers.

So, while Intel and MS have gotten things to gel quite a bit better than when the 6 series chips were initially released.. there's still a huge mix of variables involved(too many combo's) with getting everything working as it should. Especially since we keep seeing a new series of chipsets every year. lol

Hey Groberts101 is this recommend or just something you have noticed.

I'm using 1008 OROM with the newest RST drivers and everything runs great so far.

And with my Asus board that is the highest Orom I can use on the board.

actually both. Some of the smartest guys I know say the same thing as well and I usually have no quams about hanging on long coattails on such subjects.

As with anything driver and bios related.. "if it ain't broke".... However.. if you want to push that envelope for those last few IOPS and extra throughput.. and TRIM for raid?.. you'll have to join the beta-testers team along with the rest of us.

And I thought you were also testing mod'd OROM's for TRIM pasthrough in raid like all the other big boys around here? lol If so.. why haven't you injected a mod'd OROM to move into the 11 series for that particular board yet?

Point is.. there's plenty of evidence around to support the "2 steps forward.. and 3 steps back" rule.. when it comes to mixing and matching OROM and driver series. That's a pretty deep river when it comes to sheer number of potential Intel combinations. If you really want to be assured of proper matches.. stick with what the mobo mfgr has validated and made available to you on their server. Now.. you know as well as I do that even doing that will not guarantee perfection.. but at least the chances do go up.

There is an limitation with most of the X58 Asus boards.

"BIOS support for large OROM sizes of 120k"

the newer OROMS 11+ are all 120k so it limits me to 10 which are smaller.




In Raid 0 for a few weeks now and Idle GC has been doing its job so the loss of trim doesn't seem to be a big deal currently.

ok.. got it. That refreshes the memory of what was posted in various threads about your predicament there. Although, it probably doesn't matter all that much if we can't get proper trim passthrough for the guys who actually can get the OROM injected anyways.

I myself hit a brick wall too even though my Gigabyte X58 runs the 11.6 series OROM just fine. Tougher not to crack but all hope is not lost and maybe someone will eventually get it figured out. 🙂
