Posted this on Computer Problems, and they suggested this forum more apt. My existing 'puter is 6 yrs old (P4 2.53, 2gb ram, 4 of 80gb HD's and typical other items of that era. Thinking of something like this, but I can wait for the P38 & Penyrn. Not heavily into games, but multitask alot, video edit, photos, etc. I know I could save $ on case, mobo, and video card (or spend another $100 for the 8800?) Thanks for any + or - ideas!

Overkill on the PSU, buy a corsair 450vx, corsair 520hx or a antec earthwatts 500w, either those will power your rig just fine, come with 3-5 year warranty and cost about 30-50$ of that antec PSU you mentioned. You could get cheaper ram too, like : http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16820145034

You could also save money on the soundcard. In fact, most onboard sound is pretty good, even for games, and since you don't game that much I wouldn't spend 80$ on a soundcard. Rather get a bigger HD to store all the video's, photo's and music. And the vga cooler is just going to make your PC more noisy and that's it :p Or spend the 80$ from the soundcard and get the 8800gts 320mb instead like you mentioned.

Penryn isn't that much of an improvement over Conroe, and I doubt x38 is going to offer much performance over p35, pricewise that is. Perhaps you pay double the money, and get 5-10% extra performance. Not worth it.
