I'm having some trouble with an Intel retail heatsink that I'm using on a C2D. It has the 4 push pins with the quarter turn fastener to lock it. It's in, but it seems to pull out easily like when I moved the case.

Is there a trick to mounting it? If I push hard on one corner the opposite corner pops out. Could it be a worn pin?

After you push in, twist.

*EDIT* to be more specific...you should probably twist before you press them in. Make sure they're all turned clockwise before you press them in. Just to make sure, after they're pressed in, use a flathead screwdriver and twist clockwise.

Well, yeah I'm twisting it to lock it down, but it's still loose. It helps a bit if I push opposite corners at the same time. I think I'll check if the pins are worn.

Perhaps this would be a good time to upgrade to aftermarket HS/F, the stock Intel situation really is a sad state of affairs.

The Zalman 9500AT is very good heatsink and avoids the stock mounting system.
